Vinzelles, located in southern Burgundy, originally known as "Vincella" or "little vine", was first mentioned in 937 AD. It has produced one of the best white wines for over one thousand years. As long ago as 1415 King Charles VI delivered an edict classifying the wines of Maconnais as "wines of Burgundy". The principal wine designations were by then established, with south western Maconnais already producing excellent wines such as Fuissé, Loché and Vinzelles itself.

Situated entirely in the commune of Vinzelles, our 15 hectare vineyard stretches out mid-slope on the hills surrounding the two castles.

Principally south-east facing, to take advantage of the sunlight and allow the grapes to fully ripen, our vineyard is planted with approximately 40 year old vines. It is consecrated essentially to Chardonnay.

This noble white varietal, which is particularly compatible with the clay and limestone terroir of our vineyard, produces the fruit for our "Pouilly-Vinzelles" Château Vinzelles".
